Saint Malo

Updated: Feb 8, 2021

Mini break to the beautiful French town of Saint Malo.

Easily accessible from Portsmouth on the overnight ferry, i scanned the Brittany Ferries timetable and realised it is possible to depart on the evening sailing, arrive early the next morning, depart that evening and arrive back in the UK the following morning and that's classified as a 'day trip'! Bargin price for a long weekend away without the need for a hotel!

Nice continental breakfast and coffee in a pavement cafe, explore the old walled city, some light shopping and a walk along the beach before returning to the ship for a shower and change before having an evening meal, few drinks in the bar then retire to your private ensuite cabin.

The ferry terminal is within walking distance of the walled town of Saint Malo which is to the left when leaving the terminal, or the newer part of town which is to the right. Taking the later, a lovely walk is available up onto the hillside which offers views of the port and the old walled town beyond through the branches of the surrounding trees. Continuing on, smaller waterfront bays can be found.

The walled town is absolutely wonderful and and offers a selection of pavement cafes, bars, restaurants and boutique shops.
